Dr. Phil Shares: 3 Easy Tips For Injury Prevention

Injuries can be prevented, here are a few tips to keeping out enjoying the things you love to do.

Hydrate!

When the weather gets cooler, we may not be as thirsty.  Getting enough to drink is important whether you’re lifting weights, doing an exercise program, going for a walk or run.  Keeping the body hydrated helps the muscles work efficiently.

Thirst isn’t the best indicator that you need to drink.  If you are not sure, pay attention to the colour of your urine. Pale and clear means you are well hydrated. If it’s dark, it’s time to drink more fluids.

Warm-Up & Stretch Afterwards

Warming up is key, seems so easy of a tip to mention, however many of you often skip this important step.  Time can be limited with work, family and other tasks taking up our time.

Take the time to do a few simple stretches, get moving and gradually increase your intensity level before going all out in your activity.  Also, take a few minutes to stretch out once you are finished too.

Wear Proper Footwear

Proper and appropriate footwear is key to injury prevention no matter your activity is.  Choosing the appropriate shoes for the appropriate activity is key and while there is an expense to buying shoes, if it is an activity you plan on pursuing, it is worthwhile to invest in it.

Follow these few quick tips to help you stay injury-free.
